Sinister is a frightening new thriller from the producer of the Paranormal Activity films and the writer-director of The Exorcism of Emily Rose. The movie stars Ethan Hawke as a true-crime novelist desperate to create a new hit, who moves with his family to a house where an actual crime happened. He then discovers a box of mysterious, disturbing home movies that plunge his family into a nightmarish experience of supernatural horror.
I always have this fear of watching movies with actual footage. Blame it all to The Blair Witch Project, a movie that I got so freaked out as a kid. Sinister is very scary in parts, but I was looking for an outstanding story. The several footage, which propelled the story forward, were so disturbing for me to watch head-on. Again, blame it all to The Blair Witch Project!
Ethan Hawke did a very convincing performance as the father and striving writer, trying his hardest to make his next book a tremendous success, while protecting and keeping his family together. The other cast members did good too.
Sinister brings genuine chills and great thrills, but I was looking for more depth in the story. I did not like how the movie ended. Over-all I give this movie a pass.
